The
Growing Sculpture
The
Unknown Outcome Project Unveiled at Sowebo Fest 2003
Growing Sculpture Artists (So Far):
Anthony West, Chris Rhoten, Dave Parker, Dave Scheper, Derrick Arnold, Jim
Vose, John Fulcher, John Maxwell, Karl Sarr, Kerry Stagmeyer, Stewart Watson,
Timothy Murray
THE
IDEA:
For artists to create their own individual sculptures with two 8"x8"x1/4" metal
plates welded at both ends. We ask the artists to donate these to Sowebo Arts
Inc. The Sowebo Art Committee will bolted them to each other like a multi-directional
totem pole . The multi-component sculpture will grow and branch ever larger
as more units are added. It will be unveiled and premiered each year at the
Sowebo Arts Festival. Ergo "The Growing Sculpture". It's alive baby!
Endgame to have a perminant outdoor home, determined to take over Sowebo come
hell or high sculpture.
YOU
GET:
Each artist will be supplied with two 8"x8" x1/4" pre-drilled
steel plates. A $10 deposite required for the plates which
is refundable upon delivery of the completed sculpture component.
YOUR
JOB:
Units must be structurally strong, use steel as a base/substructure (500 pound
test). It must be able to support other elements attached to it's plates. Do
not use sheet metal, cast iron, aluminum, etc in a structural loadbearing capacity.
Suggested height sizes: 12", or 24",
or 36", or 48". Any finish is acceptable but remember that this project
will eventually be permanently installed outdoors. Most important is that the
finshed work must keep the 8"x8" plates parallel and square. The
bolt holes have to be accessible and the hole patterns unchanged so to mate
up with the other pieces.
This
is an ongoing open invitation intending to accept sculptures
year round!
