Festival Highlights

More than 20 Bands and Musical Acts will be played included nationally recognized singer-songwriter Caleb Stine; recent Timbaland signee, Rico; up-and-coming bands Pasadena and Shook, plus many other favorites. (Visit the "Music" page for our
line-ups) .....Over 70 creative Arts & Crafts folk lined the streets with 15 food and drink vendors..... Cafe Alley:  with activities that include musical performances, street performers and arts & crafts activities for children and adults.....Street Art: fun activities for all ages.....Two art galleries displaying our fanatically non-juried, un-vetted, “not for the faint of heart” Art Show.....and the ever popular Soweboposters proudly hanging at Zellas Pizzeria......

Sowebo Festival Music 2010

The Sowebohemian Arts and Music Festival today announced that more than 16 bands and musical acts will be playing at this year’s celebration of the festival’s 25th anniversary, held in Hollins Market on May 30, 2010 from 12-9. Included in the musical acts is nationally recognized singer-songwriter Caleb Stine; recent Timbaland signee, Rico; up-and-coming bands Pasadena and Shook, plus many other favorites.

A variety of artists will perform to thousands of locals and out-of-towners alike to celebrate 25 years of Sowebohemian Rhapsody. Bands and musical acts range from folk to hip-hop, gospel to punk, and everything in between. Festival goers will be entertained by the soul/funk groove of Shook and Grilled Lincolns; reggae, rock, and hip-hop flair of Pasadena; Bond and Bentley’s acoustic fusion rock, and the Southern rock stylings of The Remnants. Additional local favorites Lazlo Lee and the Motherless Children, Kerq, Keefe Rocket, Freedom Enterprise, Higher Hands, Siring, and Lucid will share the stage with Great Divide, in from Ann Arbor, Michigan. The choir from Sowebo’s own Grace International Church will be raising voices and lifting spirits. Tommy Buckets will bring his signature drumming style to the streets of Sowebo as will the talented students of Waverly Middle School’s drum corps.....continue reading...

Our fanatically non-juried, un-vetted, “not for the faint of heart” Art Show wants your paintings, sculptures, photographs, mixed media ...etc...surprise us! Our Show hangs during the festival Sunday May 30 in two fab venues: The Carriage House and the Emerging Artists Gallery.

    drop off appointment...be a sport and help hang your work
    at this late stage of the game!!!!
  • Location: 1008 Hollins Street.
  • Enter fee: $5.00 for one piece / $10.00 for 2 or 3 pieces.
  • Artists who returned a 2010 Soweboposter enter show for free.
  • All work must be ready to hang, wires, hooks...etc.
  • There is limited shelving and table space, we encourage 3D
    artists to bring their own stands and pedestals.
  • Pick Up: June 5th, Sat, noon-5pm.

The Emerging Artists Gallery

  • Extended Drop Off: May 29, Sat, 2pm-7pm....be a sport and help hang your work at this late stage of the game!!!!
  • Location: 9 S. Carlton ( 3 story red brick building off parking lot)
  • Enter fee: $5.00 for one piece / $10.00 for 2 or 3 pieces.
  • Artists who returned a 2010 Soweboposter enter show for free.
  • All work must be ready to hang, wires, hooks...etc.
  • There is limited shelving and table space, we encourage 3D artists to bring their own stands and pedestals.
  • Pick Up: TBD ASAP.

Soweboposters Show @ ZellasPizzeria

  • Location: Zellas Pizzeria, 1145 Hollins
  • Once again, the brave artists of Baltimore have brought their game to one of our City’s most unique art shows and auctions. For 25 years, Sowebo Arts, Inc. has made decorative bordered posters available to the art community. Artists donate them back with their original art on them so they can be auctioned off to art lovers in the Baltimore area. Proceeds benefit Sowebo Arts, Inc.
  • This year’s auction will be held on Sunday, June 27 at the:
    University of Maryland Biotech Park Building 2, located at 801 W. Baltimore Street.

Cafe Alley

Café Alley is an area within the festival with activities that include musical performances, street performers and arts & crafts activities for children and adults. Seating at café tables will be provided for “Sowebohemians” enjoying entertainment, arts activities, refreshments or just a good conversation.

Responsibility – Receive band inquires, reach out to musicians, choose bands, notify accepted musicians, determine line-up and stage assignment, arrange stage management, negotiate stage manager fees and oversee stages during festival and ensure smooth stage transitions, safe stage management and diverse performances.

Responsibility – Plan and organize creative art activities for children and adults, optimally activities in which all ages participate. Members will solicit donations for materials, seek volunteers for planning, create budget, order supplies, set up practice days, set up day of event and coordinate volunteers.

Responsibility – Plan and organize activities, solicit street performers, plan café layout, solicit vendors, coordinate volunteers, establish budget, solicit donations for materials, order supplies, set up day of event and oversee activities.

Volunteer Recruitment Committee

Responsibility – Tract volunteer requirements by determining number of hours, types of duties to be performed, locations needed and times help is needed. Manage volunteer search and solicit volunteers by use of Internet, print or other free media. Request volunteer possibilities from members of festival committee and seek other sources such as events, festivals and community functions. Create volunteer contact info sheet. Schedule volunteers on any day before day of festival as needed and schedule volunteers day of. Also notify committees if a shortage of volunteers is discovered. Greet volunteers to sign in for assignment.
