Ed Maiello
I was born in 1964 in Providence RI, raised in Columbia Maryland. Attended MICA and graduated from UMBC with a degree in studio art

My work is about myself and my relationship to the people and world around me. There are spiritual themes in my work. An Art History professor posed the idea to me once that what made Art different from Illustration or Kitsch was that Art contains a nourishing, spiritual element. I strive to bring this to my artwork. The imagery itself is rooted in Surrealism, Science Fiction, Psychedelia, Cartoons, Pop Culture, and Music of all kinds. This is the imagery that I respond to and I try to contribute to these existing forms bringing my own perceptions and ideas.
